Beauty comes from within, and for women over 50 we know that shines through. However, time also catches up with us, and we find that our skin loses its elasticity, our cheeks lose their fat, and our laughter lines and wrinkles become more prominent. That does not mean that you can’t help to slow down the aging process, which is why you should follow these three major skin care tips. By doing so, you can ensure that life after 50 can still be embraced, beauty will overcome, and all without the stress of aging.
Find a sunscreen you love and wear it daily. The sun is the number one contributor to skin damage such as wrinkles, brown spots, and skin cancer. You need a sunscreen with an SBF factor of at least 30, while ensuring it blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Make sure you wear it when it’s sunny, cloudy and raining, and never miss a day. You won’t have to worry about it clogging your pores, as your skin care routine requires you to cleanse your face at night. Don’t be fooled into thinking that one application in the morning is enough; apply it throughout the day. It is also excellent for massaging into the top of your hands, for extra protection. Get into the habit now.
Part of your skin cleansing routine should include the use of cleansers and moisturizers. First, you need to work out your skin type, and the easiest way is to talk to the consultants in the makeup stores. Once you understand your skin type, you can then purchase the correct creams. Don’t forget, the type you had in your twenties, may now have changed. Many women find their skin becomes drier as they get older. This is due to a slowdown in the production of oils in our skin, and cell turnover diminishes, most often after menopause. So, your routine should be based on the following: cleanse, tone and moisturize in the morning and evening. Work out the two best nights of the week to exfoliate or use peels.
Oils are on trend in skincare, and everyone has a favorite one based on their skin type. Many women over 50 have turned to oils, rather than creams, as they are easy to apply and leave the skin feeling plumb. Don’t fall into the belief that you need to strip your face of oils, as this is a common misconception. Essential oils will maintain and restore the balance of oil in the skin, leaving you glowing. Light organic oils can contain ingredients such as, rosehip, almond, argan, and grapeseed, which when combined will give you a radiant and dewy complexion.
