Non-surgical Upneeq® is a revolutionary once-a-day prescription eyedrop medication specially developed to help improve different degrees of ptosis (low-lying eyelids). How does Upneeq work?

Upneeq (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) is a 0.1% prescription eyedrop that treats acquired blepharoptosis (more commonly referred to as “droopy eyelids”) in adults. It works by activating receptors in the Müller’s muscle, which is responsible for raising the upper lids. These receptors stimulate the contraction and elevation of the upper lids. While it won’t produce the more dramatic results of a surgical eyelid lift, most patients see an average of about 1 millimeter of lift in their upper eyelid after only their first use.

What exactly is acquired blepharoptosis?

Acquired blepharoptosis is a common medical condition that can develop later in life most often when the eyelid muscles stretch and weaken, resulting in eventual drooping. It can affect adults of all ages, however, and may be caused by other issues, such as cataract surgery or an underlying medical condition. You should consult with your doctor if you’re concerned about the cause of your low-lying eyelids. Whether drooping eyelids are affecting your vision or they’re simply a cosmetic concern, Upneeq was developed to help improve these effects without surgery.

Am I a candidate for Upneeq prescription eyedrops?

Upneeq is generally considered safe and effective for most adults who have low-lying eyelids. It may interfere with certain health conditions or other medications, however, so we’ll go over all details at your appointment to ensure Upneeq is right for you.

Does Upneeq have any side effects?

The most common side effects associated with Upneeq eyedrops may include mild eye inflammation, redness, dry eye, blurred vision, eye pain at time of application, irritation, and headache. Based on clinical studies, these effects only occur in about 1-5% of patients. Upneeq has been proven to be generally safe and effective when used as directed.

When can I expect to see results with Upneeq?

In clinical trials, patients with acquired ptosis experienced a slight lifting effect on the first day of treatment with Upneeq – even in just two hours after application in some cases! Statistically, 87.8% of patients had some form of improvement, while 40.8% had at least a 50% improvement by Day 14. Results have been shown to last around six hours with each application. You may continue using Upneeq as long as your provider deems it appropriate.
